Fakieh Aquarium on the Jeddah Corniche is Saudi Arabia's best-known public aquarium, home to more than 200 species from sharks and rays to seahorses and Red Sea corals. Walk-through tanks and touch pools make it an easy 1-2 hour family stop, and a dolphin and sea lion show runs on a separate ticket.
Fakieh Aquarium sits on the Jeddah Corniche and is the best-known public aquarium in the Kingdom. For families with children who have spent a week being told to be quiet in mosques, it is a useful release valve.
More than two hundred species across a series of themed tanks, weighted towards the Red Sea on your doorstep: reef fish, corals, moray eels, rays and sharks, alongside seahorses, jellyfish, clownfish and a penguin enclosure. There is a walk-through tunnel with the water above you, which is the bit small children talk about afterwards, and touch pools where they can put a hand in.
Signage runs in Arabic and English.
This is the thing people most often get wrong. The show is not included in standard aquarium entry — it is a separate ticket, in a separate arena, at fixed times through the day.
Two consequences. First, if you want it, buy the combined ticket, which costs less than the two bought separately. Second, check the show times before you plan your afternoon, because arriving twenty minutes after the last one has started means you have missed it.
Adult entry starts around SAR 60 and children's tickets around SAR 50, with under-threes usually free. The combined aquarium-and-show ticket costs more.
Opening hours have changed more than once, and Ramadan hours are different again. Check the current times on the day you are going. This is a genuinely common source of wasted trips.
An hour if you are walking through briskly. Two if you have children who stop at every tank, which they will. Add another hour if you are doing the show.
It is on the Corniche, so the obvious pairing is the aquarium in the afternoon, then the waterfront and the city highlights drive as the sun goes down, then Al-Balad in the evening. That is a full, well-paced Jeddah day with almost no time spent in the heat.
