You have four realistic options: a pre-booked private car, an airport taxi, a ride-hailing app (Careem or Uber), or the Haramain train. Your four options at a glance

Option 1: Pre-booked private car (meet-and-greet)

A driver waits inside arrivals with a name sign, at a fixed per-car fare of about SAR 180–700 by class, and takes you door to door in 60–90 minutes. There is no haggling, no surge pricing, and the driver tracks your flight so a delayed landing or a slow immigration queue costs you nothing. Option 2: Airport taxi

Taxis wait outside arrivals, but fares are usually negotiated rather than metered, so you may pay more when you are tired and unfamiliar with the going rate — and there is no flight tracking if you land late. It is a workable option for a confident solo traveller who is happy to agree a price firmly before setting off; it is less ideal for a family after a red-eye, when the last thing you want is a negotiation at the kerb.

Option 3: Careem / Uber from JED

Ride-hailing works at Jeddah Airport and can be cheaper off-peak, but there are conditions: you need a local SIM or eSIM with data and a working payment method, the pickup zones can be a short walk from arrivals, and prices surge during Ramadan and Hajj, when cancellations also spike as drivers cherry-pick longer fares. It is good for a light-luggage couple on a normal day, and unreliable exactly when demand is highest.

Option 4: Haramain train

The Haramain line has a station at the airport, and the airport→Makkah leg takes only about 30 minutes. But Makkah's station is 7–8 km from the Ḥaram, so you still need a transfer with your luggage at the Makkah end — and you must first get from your arrival gate to the airport station. Travelling in ihram

If you enter ihram before landing, the private car is the calmest choice — you walk from arrivals to a waiting driver and head straight to the Ḥaram with no negotiation and no crowds to navigate with bags. Note your ihram in the booking so the driver plans a direct route and, if you ask, a prayer stop. Remember that the miqat for those flying in is crossed in the air, so most pilgrims enter ihram before landing.

Which should you choose? (by group)

• Family of 4+ with luggage: a pre-booked private car or van — one fixed fare, door to door, no juggling taxis.
• Solo or couple, light bags, off-peak: Careem or the train can save money.
