Saudi Customs: What You Can & Can't Bring

Saudi customs rules are strict and clearly enforced, so knowing what you can and can't bring saves trouble on arrival. Most travellers pass through easily — the key is to avoid the prohibited items entirely and declare anything you're unsure about. Here is the essential list. Strictly prohibited

• Alcohol and anything containing it.
• Pork and pork products.
• Narcotics and illegal drugs — with extremely serious penalties.
• Weapons, ammunition and related items.
• Material against public morals or religion, and certain publications or imagery.

These are enforced firmly, so leave anything on this list at home without exception.

Restricted / declare

• Medicines: bring personal medication with a prescription; some drugs (for example strong painkillers or certain psychotropics) are controlled — check before travelling and keep them in original packaging.
• Cash: declare amounts above the current threshold on both arrival and departure.
• Large quantities of goods that look commercial may attract duty.

Generally fine

• Personal clothing, electronics and gifts in reasonable quantities.
• A reasonable personal supply of food (no pork), dates and sealed items.
• Your sealed Zamzam home (see the airline rules).
