The date market

Madinah is renowned for its dates, above all the prized ʿajwa. The date market near the central area and out toward Qubāʾ is a highlight — sample and buy dates, honey and dried fruit to take home, and the vendors are used to visitors tasting before they choose. Buy near the end of your stay so they travel home fresh. It is one of the most characteristic Madinah experiences.

Masjid Qubāʾ & Quba Street

Masjid Qubāʾ, the first mosque of Islam, is a short ride south, and praying two rakʿah there carries great reward — many pilgrims make a point of going out fresh from home to do so. The road out to it, Quba Street, is lined with shops and eateries. It is part of most Madinah ziyārat routes.

Museums & heritage

Museums such as the Dar Al-Madinah Museum present the city's history, urban heritage and the story of the Prophet's ﷺ Madinah, with models of the old city and of the mosque's successive expansions — a rewarding hour that makes what you are visiting far more meaningful. It's an ideal stop for families with older children.

Historic sites

Around the city lie Jabal Uḥud and the Martyrs of Uḥud, Masjid al-Qiblatayn (the mosque of the two qiblas), and the trench sites of the Battle of the Khandaq — each tied to pivotal moments in early Islam and best seen with a little context.
