Umrah Packing Checklist for Men & Women

Packing well for Umrah means travelling light but forgetting nothing — the essentials for the rites, the documents that get you there, and a few comfort items for the long days in the Ḥaram. A little planning here saves real stress on arrival, especially in ihram, when you cannot simply buy scented replacements. Use the checklists below (your browser's print or save-as-PDF will keep them for offline use), keep the rites-critical items in your carry-on, and leave room for Zamzam on the way home.

Documents & money (carry-on)

• Passport (valid 6+ months) and a printed or saved copy of your visa.
• Vaccination certificate (meningitis ACWY; polio where required for your nationality).
• Flight details and hotel confirmations; the Nusuk app installed and logged in.
• A bank card (mada-friendly) plus some cash in riyals for taxis and small eateries.
• Any medication in your hand luggage, with prescriptions.

Ihram kit — men

• Two sets of ihram (two white unstitched sheets each) — one to wear and one spare, which is invaluable if one gets wet or soiled.
• An ihram belt with a pouch for phone and money, so your hands stay free.
• Unscented soap and toiletries (fragrance is prohibited in ihram).
• Comfortable sandals that leave the mid-foot bare.
• A small prayer mat and a light towel.

Clothing — women

• Loose, modest everyday clothing — there is no special ihram garment for women.
• Comfortable, covered footwear for long walks, and a light shawl for cool, air-conditioned mosque interiors.
• Unscented toiletries; keep to the ihram rules on perfume.
• Personal items and a small bag for the Ḥaram.

Toiletries & health

• Unscented soap, shampoo and toothpaste; a small first-aid kit.
• Blister plasters and pain relief — you will walk a great deal.
• Sunscreen and lip balm (unscented in ihram), and a refillable water bottle.
• Hand sanitiser, tissues and a face mask for the crowds.
• Rehydration salts are worth packing for the heat.

Comfort & tech

• Phone, charger and a power bank; a local SIM or eSIM for data.
• A light foldable bag for your shoes at the Ḥaram gates.
• An umbrella or cap for shade outside the mosque (not on the head in ihram for men).
• Offline maps downloaded, and your hotel address saved in Arabic.

What people forget

• A spare ihram — the item most regretted when it's missing.
• Prescriptions for medication, in case you're asked at customs.

• A small amount of local cash for the first hour before you find an ATM.
